Micro Business

At TrueNorth, we are dedicated to helping students build career paths that reflect their strengths and aspirations, laying the groundwork for a fulfilling and sustainable future. TrueNorth’s current vocational Micro Business, Cosmic Creations, provides transition students with valuable hands-on experiences creating handmade soap and candle products.

The program allows students to develop key job skills while supporting important secondary outcomes like increased autonomy, community involvement, and preparation for life after school. Through the operation of the business, students gain practical knowledge in areas such as customer service, product development, sales, inventory management, and financial transactions.

Our Micro Business projects have included:

  • Handmade candles
  • Handmade soaps
  • Student created holiday cards
  • Student baked dog biscuits

Running the business teaches technical and real-world skills, like teamwork, time management, goal setting, and accountability. By engaging with customers and co-workers, students enhance their communication and interpersonal skills, building confidence, independence, and a strong work ethic—essential qualities for success in life.
