AIMSweb Data Information
Posted by Mary Morgan Ryan on 9/17/2019We have been notified by one of the cooperative’s education technology vendors, Pearson Clinical Assessment, about its AIMSweb 1.0 platform. You may be familiar with AIMSweb, as it is one of the student assessment tools our cooperative has used to measure student growth. AIMSweb is a popular assessment tool that is used by many school districts, including several here in northern Illinois.
The recent notice from Pearson indicated that its AIMSweb 1.0 platform experienced a data breach in or around November 2018. Pearson has investigated the breach and informed the cooperative that a very limited amount of student information, specifically names, dates of birth, and in one instance, an email address, were accessed by the unauthorized party. However, no grades, test information, Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, or other financial information were accessed. This breach occurred on Pearson’s servers, not the cooperative’s servers, and we understand that all of Pearson’s AIMSweb 1.0 users were affected, not just NSSED.
Pearson is offering free credit monitoring services from Experian in response to this breach. For more information, please contact Pearson by phone at 866-883-3309 or by email at aimsweb1request@pearson.com. Please know that the safety and security of your students - and data about them - is a top priority for NSSED. If we can be of any service in connecting you with Pearson or answering any questions about this incident, please contact Mary Morgan Ryan, Chief Technology, Communication and Data Services Official, at mmorganryan@nssed.org.
